Highlander movieEver wondered if there was a heavy metal song based on the Highlander series of movies?  Well, wonder no longer!  England’s Cloven Hoof have seen to it.  And here it is for your rocking out enjoyment.  The hills have eyes!

I’m not sure what, if any, connection the song has to the movie aside from just being about it but it’s awesome either way.  Seeing as how the song came out 3 years after the movie, it’s probably just a badass homage.  But really, before anyone gets any big ideas, the best way to remake Highlander would be through song.  And even then, there can be only one.

Such a posed shot.  The only thing that really makes this a goofy picture (aside from V-arms McGee on drums) is the fact that the singer is holding up the mic to his mouth, yet very obviously isn’t singing.  Couldn’t he do something cool like the other guys?  He reminds me of one of those glamour shots girls would do back in high school and Mexican women do until their physically unable to any longer.  He just needs a drapey blue background and some sequins.

Aye, laddie.  The clan of MacLeod calls and immortality awaits in your quest for the head of your enemy.  Crank it up and just try not to sing along!

“Warriors in Pain” by Attack (1985)

Attack - Return of the Evil

Band: Attack

From: Germany

Album: Return of the Evil (1985)

Song: Track 1 – Warriors in Pain

You know, everyone talks about black being the ultimate metal color and I get it and I agree that black is very much the reigning champion on the basic metal color scheme.  However, little mention is ever made of black’s metal brother dark blue.  I mean, just look at that cover!  I also direct you to the Adramelch album Irae Melanox for another perfect example.  I don’t know where the sword is supposed to be exactly on the album cover for Attack’s Return of the Evil (although I assume a cave of some kind) or what evil exactly is meant to be returning but that’s some damn good imagery.

The song itself is blatantly influenced by Iron Maiden.  Although that only makes it awesomer.  The more medieval-ish lyrics combined with the German accent of the vocals in B+ English makes it plenty different for me.  Although if you need further proof of an Iron Maiden influence, I direct you to 22 Acacia Avenue from 1982.

Man, I love these guys.  It’s like they’re on a metal high school football team and the coach just told them to grab a knee (which means, “shut up, kneel on one knee and listen to me talk about bullshit” in high school football coach lingo).  These guys do look like they could use a pep talk though.  And why the knife?  I’d imagine a lot of people wouldn’t even notice that little dagger stabbed into the floor of that black box theater stage.  But there it is.  Athough it is Germany and those are some scary dudes so maybe it was just a little warning for the photographer to do his damn job right and not screw around.
